Specific Prayer Needs and We Are Rarin’ to GO!

Hello friends! I am just beside myself with anticipation about leaving in 3 short days for Africa. I think we are all set with laundry and clothes prepared for my little family as well as myself. Childcare has switched around a bit, but God provided! Food has been planned as well as our sweet Sunday School class providing dinners for my two while I am away. We’ve tried to think of everything and plan for as many scenarios as possible. Ultimately, they are going to figure it out and so am I!

I wanted to give you our schedule outline so that you might pray for us specifically.

We leave on Wed 4/17 and will fly/travel until Friday 4/19. Please pray for traveling mercies and for nerves to be calm as we travel many hours on a plane!

Saturday- training day/planning for VBS/inviting children to VBS later in the week

Sunday- church/ planning for VBS- down time

Monday and Tuesday- morning and afternoon VBS sessions

Wednesday- leave for the bush- set up tents- plan with local helpers- meet kids, play games, invite to Jesus Film in evening

Thursday and Friday- morning and afternoon sessions in the bush and return to missionary home for evening

Saturday- Fly out!

  • Please pray for our effectiveness while we are there.
  • Pray for children to understand the gospel as we share about The Garden/Sin/The Fall, Jesus’ life and the Prodigal Son.
  • Please pray that we will be flexible and that the Lord will use us in more ways that we can imagine in our short time there. Pray that we will not be short sighted, but have the Lord’s vision for this time.
  • Pray for the missionary family that we will stay with. Pray that we will be an encouragement to them and that they feel support from our church family through our actions and efforts.
  • Pray for our families here in the states as we leave. Pray for health, safety and a good week for them while we are away.

In no way do I believe that in my own strength I can do anything for the Lord on this trip. Without prayer I will be completely useless… all of us will! We desperately need your prayer as we go and are counting on it to see us through each day.

It seems that each time I’ve had my quiet time this week the Lord has had something about “the nations” for me.

Psalm 113:4 says, “The LORD is high above all nations, and His glory above the heavens.”

I love that He is so personal and meets us where we are as we walk with Him. I have needed to hear that He is above it ALL and that He sees all that every individual needs on this PLANET! It’s so hard to fathom.

Thank you so much for praying!

Who KNEW!?

I just have to tell the truth. Going on a mission trip is NOT for the faint of heart.

People tell you that it is just such a blessing and that they are just blown away by what God has done… and yes those are all very true I am SURE! I am 4 days out from leaving so I can NOT wait to see how God shows up! But somehow I’ve missed the stories of the warfare that goes on before hand! How come no one really tells you THAT part?

For starters I’ve been sick. I am now convinced that I’ve had the flu. Even though I’ve had the shot, etc., etc. I’ve also had fever, aches, AWFUL and nasty congestion and a terrible cough and zero energy. So yeah. I’d say the flu.

I’ve also had this…

040

the pinkest eye ever! This was actually at the beginning of my suspicions that I potentially had pink eye. It got much worse! I have been at home for days trying to get well. It’s just lovely.

The next thing is that EVERYTHING under God’s sun has broken at our house! Oh, I wish I were kidding.

See these?

037

The bike broke, and though we tried, we could not fix it.

The lawn mower… well, it is ALL done. My sweet man tried everything in the book, but it’s the first mower ever made and came over on the Ark! Actually,  it’s a hand-me-down so who KNOWS how long it’s been alive? Not no more!

Ok. Next? Our bed broke. Yes, our bed.

One morning around 5a.m., while my husband and I were soundly sleeping, my side of the bed just gave way with a THUD. When we woke up I looked UP at my husband (because his side was still in tact and we were sideways!!) and he said, “Well, are you ok?” HAHAHAH! Oh! It kills me to even retell it! SO hilarious!! But yes, it broke. For days we slept in the guest bedroom and pretended we were at a bed and breakfast.

HOWEVER, Frick and Frack (that would be me and my man) were putting the bed back together and while doing so we hit a large globe candle holder and broke it into a million tiny pieces. Because we are good like that…

The other thing that broke is the front of a drawer on our daughter’s dresser just came off. She was pulling it and the front just came off in her hands. We’ve tried to fix it, but it keeps happening and it’s furniture that my dad made for me when I was a little girl so we are not just getting rid of it. We still have to work on it.

It’s now a shelf. HA!

You know the feeling you get when so many things are just going wrong? You just want to give up and decide that maybe your decisions weren’t good ones after all. Well, I am convinced that this is what the enemy wants!! He is throwing darts and trying his hardest to discourage me. SO here are the praises!!

1) my dad fixed both the bike and the bed for free!!

2) The candle holder was just that… a candle holder! I can get another one when I get back!

3) My daughter’s dresser can be fixed. It will be a cheap fix, too. Maybe my dad will even do it for us.

4) I am getting better. I live in the US where there are doctors and medicines that I can take to help me be well. It may take time and patience but it’s going to be ok.

5) That lawn mower is the 2nd hand-me-down that we’ve had! We’ve never had to buy a mower in 17 years of marriage!! I’d say that’s a pretty good record and we’ve been blessed to make it this long!

Even though the enemy might try… he does not win! He can not stand against an all powerful and ALMIGHTY God! God’s command was to “go into all nations…” and that is what I plan to do! Well, maybe not ALL nations on this trip, but I am not going to let the darts of the enemy stand in my way of going where I feel God has called me.

AND… if you are planning to go on a mission trip? Well, just know that God is IN CONTROL and that nothing formed against us can stand! No matter what..our obedience will bring Him glory and that’s why we were created!!

WAIT! It’s April!?! I Need You to Pray!

Oh heavens! The time is just flying! This week is spring break for us and we have been so busy doing this and that. We’ve also just celebrated Easter and our Savior’s resurrection and had a really fun time with family. THAT is for a separate post along with other things that have been going on around our house.

I wanted go post this today so that we could have as many people as possible begin to pray for our mission team. We leave in 12 days and I really covet your prayers for each of our team members and the missionary family that we will stay with.

The names of our team members are: Lisa, Ginger, Connie, Ron, Ryan, Joseph, Jeremy and Garrett and myself.  We covet your prayers for:

our families as we leave them here and for us as we go away from them

traveling mercies

unity of the team

health/safety

flexibility as schedules change and personalities mesh

being bold for Christ and working with all that we have to do what He would have us to on our short visit there

planning and reaching the children in that area of the world in the best ways possible

Joseph will be preaching some. Please pray that the Lord puts the exact words in his heart and mind so that he will be as effective as possible

Some of our team are dealing with work issues. Please pray that those will be resolved so that we can go knowing that God has provided here.

We do have a proposed schedule. I would like to post that soon so that you can pray for us specifically each day. We can not emphasize the importance of prayer as we set out to share about our Savior with a lost and dying world.

Thank you so much for praying!
